Grand National-winning trainer announces new partnership

Grand National-winning trainer Dr Richard Newland has revealed that he is to join forces with Jamie Insole, former assistant trainer to Charlie Hills, as his yard becomes dual-purpose for the 2024 season.
The pair will train at Droitwich under a dual licence from next year’s Flat season, it has been announced.
Newland won the 2014 Grand National at Aintree with Pineau De Re and has also enjoyed success at the Cheltenham Festival.
The former GP has established himself as one of Britain’s top jumps trainers, known for his scientific approach to training. He recently celebrated his 580th winner, having moved to a new purpose-built yard outside of Droitwich, Worcestershire where he has more than 60 horses in his care.
Insole has acted as Assistant Trainer alongside Hills during the spell that included Group 1 winners such as Battaash, Phoenix of Spain and Khaadem. In 2021 Hills enjoyed his highest number of winners in a year, while in 2022 the team achieved the highest annual prize money since Hills’ career began.
The latest announcement comes after Newland also confirmed that Racehorse Syndicates Association Chairman Dan Abraham was to become Director of Racing at the yard.
Exciting times ahead
Dr Newland confirmed the latest news to Racing TV and outlined the exciting new journey that he sees ahead.
“We have trained just short of 600 National Hunt winners and I’m very excited about becoming a dual purpose yard,” he said.
“We have outstanding facilities for training Flat horses and Jamie brings a huge amount of Flat experience and knowledge to our team. While we’ll be continuing with our successful jumps string, this is an exciting initiative.
“I’m really looking forward to purchasing some yearlings, attracting some new owners and seeing our horses running on the Flat next summer.”
Insole outlines what’s in store
Insole highlighted the track record Newland has got both in business and in racing as key positives for him in their new initiative.
