How long is the King George, when’s it held and where’s it run?
The King George VI Chase, more commonly referred to simply as the King George, is a National Hunt chase run over 3 miles at Kempton racecourse. The length of the race and calibre of the field mean the King George is seen by some as a good trial for the Grand National at Aintree next April, with horses that run well at Kempton attracting attention in the Grand National betting markets. Last year’s winner, Hewick, was initially entered in both races before injury put paid to his chances, but his stable have taken the late decision to send him to Leopardstown this year instead.
How many runners are there in the King George and what are the each-way terms?
The number of runners in the King George is limited to 20 horses, although there are currently only 11 entries for the 2024 renewal. This means betting sites should be expected to offer each-way bets on at least the first three places come race day.
